Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat Oil Based Gloss
Description and use
Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat Oil Based Gloss is a decorative, flame resistant finish for use on top of Thermoguard Wallcoat, Thermoguard Timbercoat and Thermoguard Thermocoat WI or Thermoguard Thermocoat WO to protect, decorate and complete Thermoguard’s fire protection systems.
Thermoguard Flame Retardant Paints help control fire hazards caused by combustible materials such as wood and paint in buildings, by releasing a flame extinguishing gas when the flame resistant paint comes into contact with a fire.
Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat Oil Based Gloss is suitable for use direct to bare or sound previously painted non-combustible substrates, where Thermoguard Wallcoat is not required to insulate old paint films from fire.

To specify
Prepare and apply Thermoguard Wallcoat, Timbercoat, Thermocoat WI or Thermocoat WO before adding Flame Retardant Topcoat Water Based Gloss according to manufacturer's instructions.
NB Where Thermoguard Flame Retardant Paint alone is deemed to provide adequate protection
Apply to ceilings:
2 coats of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Vinyl Matt.
Or
2 coats of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Vinyl Silk.
Apply to walls:
1 coat of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Acrylic Undercoat
plus
1 coat of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Acrylic Eggshell
Composition
Antimony oxide flame retardant agents.
Acrylic, alkyd and vinyl binders.
High opacity pigments.
Fire testing
Tested to BS476 Part 7; Class 1 surface spread of flame.
BS476 Part 6; Fire propogation.
Designated Class 0 in accordance with UK Building Regulations.
Coverage
10-12m2/litre.
Application
Brush, roller, conventional or airless spray.
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and sound.
Minimum application temperature 6°C.
Do not apply when condensation may form.
Thoroughly abrade old gloss or eggshell paints.
Minimum drying times
Touch dry: 6 hours.
Re-coat: 12 hours.
