Product use
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat is designed to seal rigid asbestos inside buildings when it is sound, firmly adhered and not subject to mechanical damage, especially rigid asbestos in locations which are concealed and difficult to access, such as service ducts, roof and ceiling voids. It is ideal for use on roofs, garages, sheds, piping areas and boiler rooms etc.
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat can also be used to seal in difficult-to-remove, firmly bonded asbestos and loose isolated fibres which remain after primary rigid asbestos has been removed. It effectively prevents the release of asbestos and other fibres into the atmosphere by enveloping them. It permanently bonds residual asbestos fibres, after primary removal, to the surface to which they are attached or on which they lay.
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat helps prevent the surface spread of flame on non-combustible surfaces.
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat can be used in conjunction with Thermoguard Timbercoat or Wallcoat Intumescent Paints to upgrade combustible surfaces to Class 1 and Class 0 insulating intumescent barrier coating and Thermoguard flame retardant paint. Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat is mid sheen, and is available in white and most BS and RAL colours (please enter your colour preference in the box above or contact us for assistance on colour availability). It is recommended that the colour be chosen to contrast with surfaces to be coated to assist in ensuring adequate coverage.
Product description
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat is a sealer coating based on a unique adhesive-grade resin. It is highly plasticised for outstanding flexibility so it can withstand normal movement within a building. It also incorporates flame retardant additives.
Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat is water based, solvent free and low odour. It is safe and easy to use.
Application and spreading rate
Apply one coat of Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat at 5m2 per litre by brush, roller, airless spray or HVLP spray. For ease and to coat inaccessible areas we recommend using an extension arm on the spray unit. For air-assisted spray, apply two thinned coats at 10m2 per litre per coat.
Ensure a continuous film has been created.
NOTE: If Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat is to be used in conjunction with Thermoguard Timbercoat or Thermoguard Wallcoat, apply it directly over the Timbercoat or Wallcoat, in place of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Paint.
Friable asbestos
Friable asbestos that is impractical to remove should be sealed with one well thinned coat of Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Smoke & Flame Retardant prior to application of 2 coats Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat. Carry out test patch & test adhesion first.
