PPG Sigma Sigma Etch (mordant solution, T Wash) 5L DISCONTINUED
PPG Sigma Etch solution (also known as mordant solution, T Wash, acid etch) is a phosphoric acid based etch solution for treating new un-weathered galvanised metal before adding a protective and decorative topcoat.
PPG Sigma Etch (formerly Amercoat 59TW) can be used to pre-treat new galvanised steel where blasting or abrasion is not possible.
It is a high quality etching solution that promotes the adhesion of high temperature coatings to new galvanised steel. Sigma Etch can also be used as part of a wide range of protective coating systems that can be overcoated with many different primers and topcoats.
PPG Sigma Etch is a pale blue solution which turns black after application to show the effectiveness of the treatment. It can easily be applied with a paint brush. Highways Item No 155.
Over-application will produce a dense black powdery layer which is unsuitable for the application of a topcoat. Such areas will need abrading or washing to remove the powdery deposits or the adhesion of the topcoat will be adversely affected.
Application (at 20C):
- Stir well before use
- Apply with brush (roller can also be used)
- Recoatable: 2 hours
- Coverage: 15m2 per litre at 0 microns
- Recommended thinner: not needed
