HMG ST3000 Etch primer Base

A Chromate free translucent 2K Etch Primer offering outstanding adhesion and corrosion resistance when applied to metals, especially aluminium and alloys.

This product is mixed 1 part base : 1 Part activator. This is not to be confused with an isocyanate 2 pack product, it is a "two-part" product but is an acid etch. When mixed it produces a yellow tinted solution that will not give full covering power, the tint is there purely to show which parts have been coated. The purpose of an etch primer is to promote adhesion to difficult substrates like aluminium.

Application; Compliant spray gun or pressure pot.
Special; It is no longer recommended to use an etch primer under an epoxy primer. Residual acid from the etch primer can interfere with the proper curing of the epoxy. This may lead to extended dry times, potential blistering, and even adhesion failure. So next time you are planning to paint bare metal with an epoxy, follow the recommendations on the data sheet and use the epoxy directly on the properly cleaned and sanded bare metal substrate.

Typical usages. New or exposed aluminium should be cleaned, degreased and abraded to ensure maximum adhesion. Can be used under powder coating or most wet paint system (not two-pack epoxies) for Garden furniture, castings, aerospace and rail.
