Bollom Brosteel Ultra 60
Intumescent Coating For Structural Steel. Brosteel Ultra 60 is a thin-film waterborne intumescent coating designed to provide 30 and 60 minutes fire resistance on standard structural steel members in internal environments. Available in 5 & 10 litre containers.
Brosteel Ultra 60 is white, with a creamy consistency. If a finish is required, either for decoration or protection against moisture, a range of finishes are available. Please consult Tor Coatings for an approved list of finishes.
No specialist application skills are required, Brosteel Ultra 60 is easy-to-apply by conventional methods. All cans come complete with full instructions, coverage rates and Certificates of Conformance and Installation.
Coverage & Application Rates
Brosteel Ultra 60 is suitable for all types of structural steel, subject to the following minimum steel thicknesses:
Universal Beams - flange thickness 7.6mm;
Universal Columns - flange thickness 6.8mm;
Hollow Sections (30 minutes) - wall thickness 4.0mm;
Hollow Section Square & Rectangular (60 minutes) - wall thickness 6.0mm;
Hollow Section Circular (60 minutes) - wall thickness 8.0mm.
For thinner / lighter members please consult Tor Coatings.
Loadings based on steel section factor (Hp/A) of 300 m-1.The table below gives the recommended coverage rates in m2/litre and wet and dry film thicknesses (WFT & DFT) in mm:

Surface Preparation
Steelwork to be coated with Brosteel Ultra 60 must be primed with an Anti-corrosion Primer suited to the intended environment of the building and applied to the Manufacturer’s Specification with the exceptions that the Dry Film Thickness does not exceed 100 microns and that Thermoplastic, Bitumen or Chlorinated Rubber coatings are not used. If the steel has been galvanised or coated with a zinc-rich primer a suitable tie-coat should be applied. Consult Tor Coatings for guidance.
Application Methods
Brosteel Ultra 60 can be applied by brush, roller or spray, please see data sheet for more information.
Application Conditions
Brosteel Ultra 60 should only be applied where the surface and ambient temperature is 5°C or above, and must be maintained during the application and drying periods. The relative humidity should be below 80% throughout the application and drying periods.
General Safety
We would advise that the normal handling and ventilation precautions for solvent/waterborne paints should be observed during the application of Brosteel Ultra 60. Please refer to Health & Safety data sheets prior to commencing work. Available on request 01753 684084.
