Preparation
New timber and joinery should be clean, dry and smooth. Any knots should be cleaned off with methylated spirit. Rub it down with fine glasspaper, following the grain and removing any dust. Remove oil, grease, dirt or surplus glue to prevent these showing through the primer. Oily woods, such as teak or iroko, should be thoroughly cleaned with a cloth impregnated with white spirit to remove natural oils. Non-ferrous nails are recommended for fixing beading etc. Remove old varnish completely with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover and then treat as new timber. Any French Polishes must also be completely removed.
Application
Apply 2 coats of Blackfriar UV Wood Primer by brush. Followed by 2 coats of Blackfriar Exterior Varnish for maximum durability. Work Blackfriar UV Wood Primer into all areas of detail and joints. Allow to dry fully between coats. Do not apply to very damp wood as this will limit penetration and affect durability.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with water. Do not empty product into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
